Dads for Life: Fathering for Family Wellness was specifically created to motivate and equip men to be the best dads they can be. We believe that all dads, regardless of their context or background, can acquire the skills necessary to enhance their relationships with their children and their family in order to leave a legacy that positively impacts future generations.
The curriculum contains four sessions in eight hours of content. The material is flexible and can be taught in weekly sessions, in a one-day retreat format, and in any number of settings. The hallmarks of the program include active classroom participation utilizing a variety of methods that have been proven effective in helping people learn. These methods include role plays, group, couple and individual exercises and activities, sculpting, call-outs, and coaching.
Those familiar with Family Wellness and our other training materials will notice a similar philosophy and methodology in this edition. Namely, we affirm that, like mothers, fathers have unique and valuable strengths that can help them to manage their families in healthy ways. In addition, the two basic needs shared by all individuals (to be one’s own person and to connect with others), the core skills that make for a satisfying family life (to speak up, to listen, and to cooperate), and the three patterns that appear again and again in healthy families (parents in charge/coequal partners, room to be close and apart, and an expectation of change) also serve as the foundation for this exciting fathering program.
